Use for running purposes
By NMadison
I bought this apparel for jogging in the colder climate of Kansas City, MO. It is a continuous piece of material, so does not have any velcro on the back or anything. It has adequate extension for me down the neck to go under a shirt a little, but it does not extend upwards enough to cover the ears. It has a mesh type of material around the mouth with does accumulate a little condensation.

exactly whatchu ordered

I went with a half mask 'cause a Balaclava seemed a bit much for me; this is my third winter at Bagram Air Field, in Afghanistan and about 5k ft above sea level in the foothills of the Himalayas, wind chill can make you feel exposed if not properly protected.

I chose the half mask for my needs 'cause I have a trapper hat to cover the top and didn't want to have to deal with wrestling to put a ninja mask/hood on each time I'll be outside. I work night shift, so I experience the coldest temperatures of the day and the wind has been pretty bad this year, first year I've seen wind turn the entire surface of snow into ice where there is lots of travel; guess it's the warm soles of boots melting the surface upon contact and the wind comes along to cure the result into polished ice.

Anyway, this half mask is pretty great--it's reasonably affordable, it smells kinda funny upon first wear but that's not what matters. It's very elastic, it stretches to conform but firmly tries to maintain its dimensions. So you can expect a snug fit. I've tried it once already, and it stays in place without falling down due to its elastic clutch.

I tried out the mesh breather gate (not sure what else to call it) but it breathes pretty well, it's a two-way street though, you'll get some cold air coming in, but with the right balance of inhaling via nose and exhaling through the mouth, I think you could find a rather comfortable process for maintaing warmth on the face and keeping the mask free of condensate. Smart to make that area more breathable. I like the half mask 'cause you can wear it off the face, just around the neck for warmth just around that area and it's practical to store it there but when necessary, just comfortably pull it up over the face.

I've never owned a half mask, never really needed to being from Houston but for the frigid winters here at Bagram, this thing does the trick, I like how it offers the neck protection no matter which way you wear it, this is a crucial addition to anybody's winter gear; if you're not a scarf kinda guy or might find a scarf too cumbersome, this is a smart alternative. I wasn't outside long enough to really test how it will endure prolonged exposre to the cold but I didn't feel a hint of cold when I tried it outside briefly yesterday.

I anticipate this will fulfill or exceed all my expectations, plus my inner child thinks the ninja look is freakin' COOOOOOOOLLLL!! I digs!

Serves its Purpose
By Zach
This product does exactly what I expected it to do. I bike to and from work every day in the city and needed something to protect my face from the cold wind. I have used it for a few days now and can say that it doesn't slide down your face and it keeps the cold wind away. The only thing I would change would be to extend the fabric on the sides to cover my ears. Since the mask rests on your nose and doesn't block your vision it is not high enough to cover your ears. This product was only meant to protect your face and neck though so it is not like they failed to deliver in that aspect. Overall 4/5, I hope that as I continue to wear it every day it won't stretch out and start to fall off my face.
