Hat's Off to This BEST Hat!
By M. R. Dallal
NYC street seller with a mobile, out-of-the-back-of-the-truck top-of-the-line store, was out of my size. He claimed that Outdoor Research (OR) could not keep up with the demand for this hat. I found it on Amazon in Oregon.

I could not ask for a better hat! It is thin enough to smush into my backpack, snow-proof, and perches either on the top of my head with flaps up, or Snoopy aviator-dog style with ear flaps down, with a fabric face mask zipped into a side pocket for these wild 2010-2011 New York City blizzards! It's front bill stays up against the hat via a small magnet, or folds forward to prevent sun/snow from getting anywhere near my eyes.

This is beautiful design, utterly practical.

Very warm
By simple
This hat is expensive but totally worth it! It comes in M,L, and XL and you can find the measurements on their site. I wore it today in 10 degree weather and I was so warm. It's soft, light weight, and great for harsh conditions.

Light weight weather proof hat
By Rlam
This is a very light weight winter hat that can be folded and not take up much bulk. Have not actually tried in real cold weather yet, but the material and comfort feel is what I like and I think it will provide adequate wind/cold protection in most cases except for the super cold Poles/Siberia I would imagine.
Can wear it with the straps around the chin (velcro)which trapped warmth for head/neck or straps up the top of hat (Russian style). When straps are down, there is a mask one can pull out from the side slit and velcroed to the other side to make a face mask that will give more warmth and wind/snow protection. The duckbill shade when pulled down kind of obscure the vision so most likely not be using most of the time except perhaps when it is really heavy snow that when pulled down it will prevent snow from hitting the eyes.
Word of caution, the size maybe too small from description. I ordered size large from Orvis (which was almost $70) and still too small. So get from Amazon for less and extra large size fits me.
